I finally got around to Fuckbook, the new album by the Condo Fucks. James McNew of Yo La Tengo is the only recognizable name in the credits, though photos of the last Condo Fucks show establishes the band as an incognito Yo La Tengo. The album title and concept – it’s a covers album – marks it as a play on the band’s Fakebook. In this case, they play a bunch of garage covers or treat songs as garage songs complete with lo-fi production. Not surprisingly, that adds some punk urgency to songs by the Kinks, Slade, and a host of lesser known tunes. It’s very cool, and cooler still is that the band will be at One Eyed Jacks on Monday, April 27. Nice to have something to see during Jazz Fest that doesn’t end up with a 15-minute funky jam in C.
