According to Wikipedia:
Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song . It is well known in many English-speaking (and other) countries and is often sung to celebrate the start of the New Year at the stroke of midnight. By extension, its use has also become common at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions. The song’s Scots title may be translated into English literally as “old long since”, or more idiomatically, “long long ago” or “days gone by.”
I guess you have to be born and raised here, but there are so many quirky New Orleans “things” that I’ve grown up and miss in my auld lang syne. Turns out that an old codgerette like me and someone young, who also grew up here–our web content manager, Ben Berman, who’s all of 24–were tickled when we found some of the more famous New Orleans TV commercials, like “The Special Man.” I’m so thrilled that someone had the foresight to put this stuff up on YouTube. Enjoy! And a peaceful, happy and prosperous New Year to you. Here’s to making new New Orleans history!
