If you live in the greater New Orleans area, and pride yourself on knowing the diverse local music scene, you may have heard of a little-known rock band on the rise by the name of Zita. They entered the scene in 2018, branching out from the North Shore and eventually hitting New Orleans where they landed a show at the legendary Tipitina’s in February of 2020.
Inspired by the musical pioneers of New Orleans and the rock ‘n’ roll canon of the 1970s, Zita is bringing rock to life again. The group was referred to by Tony Kornheiser as “heavy duty rock and roll.” George Porter called Zita a “force to be reckoned with.”
The band has a crunching rock sound reminiscent of AC/DC with a splash of Sebastian Bach meets the Black Crowes. There is even a tinge of the old grunge sound Mother Love Bone but the ’80s ZZ Top rock influence never disappears amid the riffs. In true New Orleans fashion, a trombone makes an appearance but doesn’t compromise the overall rock n roll vibe. The band also incorporates influences from classic blues and rock n roll greats.
