This issue’s cover story reveals that Ratty Scurvics is Vince Vance‘s son, and how that shaped his art. Recently, I met Vance when we were both appearing on Fox 8 Morning News on the levee in Gretna before the start of Gretna Fest. On a breezy morning, he had to work to take care of his trademark hair cone, but once the camera was on, he was old school show biz at its best – energetic, a little corny and loaded with personality. He has cut a South Louisiana-influenced update of “All I Want for Christmas is You,” his contribution to the Christmas canon. Here’s the new version with Vance in a couple of looks and the original 1989 version as well.
