In the mid-1980s, the Fleshtones were a Mardi Gras fixture at Jimmy’s, playing rock ‘n’ roll dance parties that ended up with the band in the crowd, on the bar, and on the street outside. Time hasn’t been kind to their initial fanbase (which got jobs, kids and so on), but the Fleshtones never stopped being an electrifying live band—something people who saw them last year at the Saturn Bar can attest to, and something those who saw them at SXSW this weekend confirmed. The garage rock heroes have become icons of perseverance, documented in Joe Bonomo’s book Sweat and the film that this trailer is from, Pardon Us for Living but the Graveyard’s Full. The Fleshtones are back with a new album, Brooklyn Sound Solution, and they play tonight at the 12 Bar on Fulton St. (608 Fulton St.) with Dash Rip Rock and Brian Poltz.
