Friday night, OffBeat presents the Best of the Beat at Generations Hall. We recognize the best in Louisiana music, people who’ve shaped the music and our culture, and feature music by some of the city’s top artists. This year, our Lifetime Achievement Award in Music goes to the great Dave Bartholomew – a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who was recently recognized with Fats Domino by the Hall as an American Music Master. He co-wrote, arranged and played on many of the defining New Orleans R&B recordings that came out of J&M Studios, serving the role today played by producers. He also had a solo career, and here he is with Lil’ Buck Sinegal’s band playing the classic “The Monkey Speaks His Mind” outside the Cabildo. At the Best of the Beat, Deacon John will pay musical tribute to Bartholomew.
Tickets for the Best of the Beat are on sale here.
