Last week, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released a new music video for “Brendan’s Death Song” off last year’s I’m With You album. The video was shot in New Orleans on May 21, with Chili Peppers fans making up most of the extras. Most of the video shows the band leading a second line through the French Quarter, to go along with the song’s dedication to their friend Brendan Mullen, a figurehead in the L.A. punk scene since the late ’70s who passed away in 2009.
In other Red Hot Chili Peppers/New Orleans news, the Rebirth Brass Band announced today that they’ll be opening for the Red Hots at eight concerts in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. A catalyst for the pairing might have been the time spent in New Orleans while shooting the “Brendan’s Death Song” video. The day after the shoot, Chili Peppers bassist Flea tweeted from the Maple Leaf, “just saw THE REBIRTH BRASS BAND, unbelievable. hard as hell, free as a ray of light, there is not a band on earth that is better. stunning.”
