One of last year’s best local hip-hop videos was “New Renaissance”, made by the 2-Cent collective as an introduction to some of the more promising up-and-coming rappers: Mid-City A.B., LG, Chels, Supa Creative, and Cypha. For last weekend’s Listen! Literacy & Arts Festival, 2-Cent returned with a new edition of “New Renaissance,” this time bringing back Cypha and introducing three members of the next crop of talented, young, positive New Orleans MCs: Ryan Lee, SOL, and Kash Akbar. The four rap here over an instrumental built by Wes Lee around Ruby Andrews’ soul song “Didn’t I Fool You”.
