The star-studded event was emceed by Jazz Fest’s Quint Davis and paraded a who’s who of New Orleans music across the stage. Banu Gibson performed a new campaign song for Landrieu, and the evening presented such charming moments as Terence Blanchard – fresh from winning a Grammy – joining the Dirty Dozen to honk out the horn parts behind Frogman Henry’s “Ain’t Got No Home” and Allen Toussaint, George Porter, Jr., Walter “Wolfman” Washington, John Gros and June Yamagishi backing a funky blues jam led by Amanda Shaw on the fiddle. The musical surprise of the evening was Landrieu himself, who showed surprising power and vocal control while singing “I’m Coming Home” with Deacon John. Here’s an excerpt from the Landrieu press conference held earlier in the afternoon.
