This weekend, Siberia and the Hi-Ho Lounge are the homes of a reunion of bands, staff and hopefully patrons who once spent a lot of time in the Mermaid Lounge. The bar in the space now occupied by the Rusty Nail began as a lonely outpost on the edge of the Warehouse District until the Cotton Mill was renovated into condos, changing the nature of the neighborhood. Tonight, the Hi-Ho features Phil DeGruy, Valparaiso Men’s Chorus, Royal Fingerbowl, and Egg Yolk Jubilee, while Siberia presents Cambre & Capello, Orange Eye, and 66 Goat. On Saturday, the Hi-Ho presents Hagus, Chef Menteur, White Bitch, and Norco Lapalco, while Siberia hosts Strawberry Presents, Jai Alai, the Geraniums, and Rotary Downs. Admission is $10 each night, and it gets you in to both clubs.
Here is an era-appropriate video: Egg Yolk Jubilee on Louisiana Jukebox with a perfectly awkward introduction from Warren Bell.
