On May 20, “King” Richard Matthews passed away from pancreatic cancer. Matthews was the long-time grand marshal for the Olympia Brass Band, and the only holdover from Harold “Duke” Dejan’s days leading the band, and he was buried Saturday. Here he is leading his last parade, the jazz funeral for Preservation Hall’s Ernest “Doc” Watson. Matthews is on the right.
