House of Blues is hosting a powerhouse rap show tonight, with sets from El-P, Killer Mike and Mr. Muthaf*ckin’ eXquire, three well regarded MCs in today’s indie hip-hop landscape.
Headlining the concert is El-P, who has been recording since 1993, at first as part of Company Flow. In 1999, he founded the record label Definitive Jux, which has released albums by major indie hip-hop artists like RJD2, Murs, Aesop Rock, and Mr. Lif. Above is his latest music video, for “Full Retard,” a track from his new album Cancer for Cure, which came out in May.

Killer Mike, who released his third studio album last month on Definitive Jux, has been turning hip-hop heads recently with the release of this new video—although at almost 10 minutes long, some have been calling it a short film—for “Big Beast,” which features guest appearances from Bun B, T.I., Trouble, and touring mate El-P.

Mr. Muthaf*ckin’ eXquire, who opens tonight’s show, built his initial buzz around the country with his song “Huzzah” and its accompanying video. In this remix, “The Last Huzzah”, eXquire is joined by fellow New York rappers Despot, Das Racist, Danny Brown, and the ubiquitous El-P.
The concert tonight starts at 9 p.m. at House of Blues. Tickets are $20 general admission, or $40 for balcony seating.
