YouTube du Jour: Hannibal Buress

New Orleanians can hardly be said to want for a lack of entertainment options, but until recently, high-quality standup comedy was hard to come by. In the past year, though, the New Movement Theater has helped bring standup to greater prominence, first with the Hell Yes Fest! in the fall, and then opening its own space in the Marigny in March.

Tonight, the New Movement Theater brings one of today’s most exciting comics, Hannibal Buress, to New Orleans. Buress got his big break writing for Saturday Night Live‘s 2009-10 season, and wrote for 30 Rock the following year. His 2010 debut album My Name Is Hannibal put him on the national standup map, and led to performances on the major late-night television shows and other TV comedies like Louie and The Nick Show Kroll. He now co-hosts the Eric Andre Show on Adult Swim.

Buress’ second album, Animal Furnace was released two weeks ago, only a few days after the premiere of his new Comedy Central special of the same name. The album is extremely funny. Buress performs two shows tonight, one at 8:30 and one at 10:30. Tickets for each set costs $15. Here’s Buress performing on CONAN a week before his Comedy Central special and album release.
