Today and tomorrow, visitations will be held for Gary Hirstius, a singer/guitarist/songwriter who passed away last Friday. Hirtius had played music professionally in New Orleans since the ’70s, playing in many bands, including Mongrel, the Continental Drifters, the Topcats, Lil Brooklyn, the Junior Mays Band, and his own Day 7. Lately he had been performing solo at the Little Tropical Isle. He was well known as the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Detective”, due to his day job as a private investigator. In this video, recorded in late October 2010, Hirstius performs two songs on acoustic guitar that he had recently written.
