Tonight, current young hip-hop phenom and New Orleans native Curren$y is hosting a free album release party at Republic, with local DJs EF Cuttin, DJ Chicken, and DJ Slab 1 playing in support. His new record, Pilot Talk, came out today on DD172/BluRoc Records. Curren$y was last in town on 4/20, when he played one of the best-received hip-hop shows of the year so far at the Howlin Wolf.
Pilot Talk follows on the heels of his highly recommended free mixtape Smokee Robinson from this spring, and includes collaborations with heavy hitters Snoop Dogg and NOLA-transplant Mos Def, as well as fellow New Orleans native Jay Electronica, amongst others. This song, “Life Under the Scope” is the final song on the album, closing the record on a meditative, introspective note.
