This past Friday, New Orleans R&B singer Benny Spellman passed away in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida, where he had been living for years. In 2009 Spellman was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in recognition of his singing on his two hits, “Lipstick Traces (On A Cigarette)” and “Fortune Teller”, and on Ernie K-Doe’s “Mother-in-Law,” on which he sang backup.

LMHOF President Mike Shepherd and Deacon John visited Spellman in Pensacola to deliver his award, and shot this video. Deacon John, who played guitar and sang on “Fortune Teller,” even brought his guitar for a duet on Spellman’s big hits.
