Irvin Mayfield’s Project 2010: Creating a Cultural Renaissance kicks off this Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the House of Blues in the French Quarter. A concert benefiting local musicians Marva Wright, Bo Dollis, Lady BJ and JD Hill, the project’s vision is to bring back community aid for those who may be struggling. Done in conjunction with the Congo Square Foundation, Dollis, Wright and Lady BJ are in need of a helping hand because of health issues, and JD Hill is close to losing his home after being assaulted and left for dead.
Performers for the show include Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers, the Wild Magnolias, and the Pinettes Brass Band, including jam sessions with Art Neville, George Porter, Jr., June Gardner, Amanda Shaw, John Cleary, and many others. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15.
