If you think you have what it takes to win a reality TV singing contest—or more to the point, if you think you could have any fun trying—then you don’t have much to lose by heading to Lakefront Arena this weekend, where Fox-TV’s X Factor is holding auditions for its third season. Unlike many such shows, this one is open to groups as well as solo singers, so who knows—your group that does industrial brass-band covers of Human League songs just might stand a chance.
The eventual winner will get a recording contract with Sony Music and probably, all kinds of money. Of course that doesn’t happen until they comb the entire country for contestants, so odds are admittedly stiff. But then a competing show, NBC’s The Voice, has had two New Orleans contestants—Terry McDermott and Alexis Marceaux—so maybe X Factor realizes it’s time to get in on the action. And as McDermott’s Internet success recently proved, you can miss out on the top spot and the big recording contract, and still go on to make all kinds of money.
Auditions are held starting early morning on Sunday, April 14 at Lakefront Arena at the University of New Orleans; to get in you need to register on Friday or Saturday or online.
