Wynton Marsalis performs with Sesame Street Friends, including Elmo & Hoots the Owl

Folks who grew up with Sesame Street are certainly no stranger to the infectious saccharine cute voice of Elmo and perhaps only older generations of the Jim Henson series will recognize the jazz master character Hoots the Owl. (Hoots had a Sesame hit with “Put Down the Ducky.”) As previously stated by NPR, the puppetry production and jazz go way back. Naturally, it’s no surprise that the New Orleans-born, multiple Grammy-winning trumpeter, widely considered the most influential jazz musician of his generation, Wynton Marsalis,  and pal Kenny Rampton have teamed up to unite the old Sesame friends in their first ever musical duet.

The fluffy Sesame Street comrades joined the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on stage to play “It Feels Good (When You Sing a Song),” a part of A Swingin’ Sesame Street Celebration. Fans of JALCO will note that Marsalis, son of the late Ellis Marsalis Jr., serves as artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Other Sesame Street performers include Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, and more. Parents (and muppet/puppet fans all around) can stream the performance via PBS here.
