WYES is set to broadcast a series of locally-produced programs showcasing some of the Big Easy’s musical legends to celebrate the return of the city’s cherished music festivals in April and May. The highlight of this musical extravaganza is the television premiere of the critically-acclaimed film “UP FROM THE STREETS – NEW ORLEANS: THE CITY OF MUSIC,” scheduled for Monday, April 29 at 9 p.m.
Directed and written by Michael Murphy, “UP FROM THE STREETS – NEW ORLEANS: THE CITY OF MUSIC” is hosted by Grammy Award-winner Terence Blanchard, who also serves as executive producer. The 2020 film delves deep into New Orleans’ rich musical heritage, featuring archival footage of iconic performers like Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, and interviews with renowned artists such as Harry Connick Jr., Sting, and the Marsalis brothers.
Apart from the premiere of this acclaimed film, WYES will air several other captivating programs throughout festival season. The lineup includes profiles of music legends like Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Deacon John Moore, and Pete Fountain, as well as rising stars like Samantha Fish.
