By popular demand, Jazz Festing In Place will return to the airwaves this fall as WWOZ presents recordings from past Jazz Fests over two four-day weekends, from October 7 to 10 and October 14 to 17.
WWOZ will once again partner with the archive of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation to share rare and historic sets over what would have been the fall weekends of the rescheduled 2021 festival. Listeners are encouraged to wear festival gear, turn up WWOZ, and set up an outpost in backyards, balconies, or living rooms.
In addition to the music, the eight-day broadcast will include interview segments highlighting the food, crafts, and heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana. Station hosts will also be sharing recipes for favorite Jazz Fest food items and directing fans to connect with favorite local festival food and craft vendors online.
In a Facebook post WWOZ stated, “Our members and listeners have kept us going the last two years—and we’re still here for you. Maybe we can’t all be together at the Fair Grounds, but we know how to still celebrate with the ‘Next Fest Thing!’ We’re proud to share some of the finest performances in the history of Jazz Fest, while we await the return of the festival itself.”

Festing in Place has become a standard feature for WWOZ since Jazz Fest was first canceled in April 2020 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. A schedule will be released in coming days. After a two-year hiatus, next in-person Jazz Fest is slated for April 29 to May 8, 2022.
