WWOZ Piano Night returns for its annual night of entertainment, food, and most importantly, keys. Piano Night concert benefits WWOZ and has become a Jazz Fest season staple in New Orleans. The benefit concert will be held on April 27 beginning at 6:30 pm on the Monday night between the two weekends of Jazz Fest.
Piano Night is certainly not short of excitement; it will feature 12 pianists, a meal in the Ebony & Ivory Bistro, a patron party in the Byrd’s Nest Lounge, and tributes to Dr. John and Art Neville. Featured performers of Piano Night include Marcia Ball, Ellis Marsalis, Jon Clearly, Larry Sieberth, Eden Brent, CR Gruver, Joe Krown, Kyle Roussel, Oscar Rossignoli, Michael O’Hara, and more.
The event seeks not only to raise funds that benefit WWOZ 90.7 FM, but also to recognize and celebrate New Orleans piano traditions and the musicians who uphold them. Piano Night showcases all-star New Orleans pianists who play for five hours in a range of styles from jazz to R&B and gospel.
The event is spread throughout the House of Blues, with attractions occurring in the Music Hall, The Parish, and The Foundation Room. The Piano Night main stage will be held in the Music Hall from 6:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Adjacent to the Music Hall Balcony is the Bistro, where a dinner buffet with food from an assortment of fantastic New Orleans restaurants will be offered from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The Bistro will be open all night and will have a video feed from the main stage if guests choose to sit and chat separately from the Music Hall. The Foundation Room will hold a Patron Party that includes an intimate Piano Night showcase. There will be an open bar, food, and smaller-scale performances from beloved main stage performers.
