New Orleans’ WWOZ has two big fundraisers every year, in addition to its ongoing fund drives: “Piano Night” during Jazz Fest every year, and a fall event, the “Groove Gala.” This year, the Groove Gala will take place at Tableau Restaurant in the French Quarter on Friday, September 1.

Performers this year include Irma Thomas, Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes, Doreen Ketchens, John “Papa” Gros, Haruka Kikuchi, the Treme Brass Band and Soul Power Live with DJ Soul Sister.

Sponsors for the event are Tableau, Le Petit Theatre, Resource Bank and the Helis Foundation. Every ticket purchased is “a gift to WWOZ” that helps keep the station operational—and who knows, if the Gala is successful, the station may be able to purchase a new building!
