The World Naked Bike Ride will return to New Orleans on Saturday, June 11.
While it may sound like fun and games, the event has a serious purpose: to raise awareness about renewable energy, as well as the dangers faced by cyclists on a daily basis. After all, riding naked through the streets is as a good a way as any to get people’s attention.
This year will mark the 8th time that the Naked Bike Ride has rolled through New Orleans since 2009. As its name suggests, affiliated bike rides will take place around the world throughout June, with similar events scheduled in over 70 cities across 20 countries.
The New Orleans ride will begin at 5pm in Mickey Markey Park in the Bywater neighborhood. Riders will assemble at 4pm for preparations, such as body painting, sign making and more. All human powered vehicles will be welcome on the ride, including skates and skateboards.
After leaving the park, the parade will make its way through the French Quarter, past Jackson Square, and then up Bourbon Street. Those that do not intend to ride are asked to line the route, as they will not be allowed in the assembly area.
More information can be found via the World Naked Bike Ride’s website.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the bike ride would take place on June 6. It will take place on June 11.
