Creatives: Learn Copyright Basics For World Intellectual Property Day

April 26 marks World Intellectual Property Day, an important date for creatives looking to learn about how to protect their rights as they pertain to things like patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyright. As such, the Ella Project and Copyright Alliance are presenting a workshop to help members of the creative community better realize and utilize intellectual property rights.

“Copyright Basics for the New Orleans Creative Community” is presented in part by New Orleans-based entertainment attorneys Max Hass and Bri Whetstone, who together will provide attendees with an introduction to copyright issues including:

Explanation of copyrights
Copyright registration
Intellectual property law
Collaboration, commissions and common contracts
Specific needs of artists, musicians, filmmakers and others
Maintaining financial control over one’s work

Copyright Basics for the New Orleans Community takes place Thursday, April 26 at Mag’s 940 (940 Elysian Fields Ave.) from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
