Electronic music pioneer DJ Shadow plays Republic December 13 as part of its monthly Bassik series, and OffBeat has a pair of tickets up for grabs. Arguably the most influential underground music figure of the last 20+ years, Shadow first rose to prominence for his groundbreaking 1996 debut Endtroducing, a mind-trip constructed solely around hip-hop and soul jazz samples that, in 2001, Guinness World Records would dub the “First Completely Sampled Album.” While never one to retread the past, DJ Shadow’s latest release, Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From The MPC Era, 1992-1996, exhumes sounds from a day gone by — or perhaps the space-time of tomorrow.
