Saturday, August 7, Whitney Bank will conquer the 300-800 blocks of Julia Street to host their annual summer pre-art season celebration, White Linen Night. From 6-9 p.m., more than twenty art galleries will display contemporary works by local, national and international artists. There will also be live music and curbside cash bars and restaurants. The New Orleans Indie Rock Collective is presenting the music this year, and prepared an excellent lineup of Sun Hotel, Silent Cinema, The Revivalists, Giant Cloud, Andrew Duhon, Blue Party, Booty Trove Brass Band, Eddie Burke, The Craft Brothers, and Loren Murrell.
After 9 p.m., following the Julia Street stroll, the official post-White Linen Night party will take place at the Contemporary Arts Center. This must-attend fundraiser party lasts until midnight and will have live music, refreshments and art. General admission is $10 and free for CAC members. Those who attend are suggested to wear white linen in the tradition of the New Orleanians who wore white in times of no air conditioning to keep away the summer heat. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for August 14.
