7Ten, Satya, Ghazi Gamala, Madspinnz and Miles.Wav will bring their collective talents to “Soul N’B,” a unique musical event taking place at The Rabbit Hole on Thursday, September 14th, at 8 p.m. The lineup boasts a mix of established and up-and-coming artists, with 7Ten and Ghazi fresh off a sold-out performance at the Hotel Saint Vincent. Meanwhile, Satya, Miles.Wav and Madspinnz, all of whom previously attended Loyola University, have been making waves in the local music scene. Satya’s EP, Deep Blue, received rave reviews last year, while Miles.Wav and Madspinnz have been hitting various stages across the city. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will deliver a performance at the Orpheum Theater on Friday, September 15, at 8 p.m. Jason Isbell, the American singer-songwriter renowned for his solo work, collaboration with The 400 Unit and his previous stint with Drive-By Truckers—where he spent six years from 2001 to 2007—has achieved four Grammy Awards. Beyond his music career, Isbell has appeared in TV series like Squidbillies and Billions, as well as films like Deadwood: The Movie. Jason’s latest album, Weathervanes, with The 400 Unit, was released earlier this summer. Notably, OffBeat fans may remember our BackTalk interview with Jason in 2015. The Big 6 Brass Band will grace the stage for a performance at d.b.a on Friday, September 15, at 10 p.m. Established in 2017, the Big 6 Brass Band quickly made a mark in the local music scene, releasing a mixtape of cover tunes and their debut album, Big Six, in 2019, which showcased their original compositions. They also gained recognition through their video Shoo Fly and a Super Bowl LIV commercial appearance. Many of the Big 6 musicians have roots in the brass band community, with backgrounds in various groups. Notably, the band’s trumpeter Eric Gordon, who now performs with Galactic, and bass drummer Thaddeus “Peanut” Ramsey started a brass band at Texas Southern University in Houston after Hurricane Katrina, bringing a touch of New Orleans to Texas. DJ Soul Sister. 

DJ Soul Sister, who recently paid tribute to pop icon Prince at the Purple Takeover New Orleans event, is hosting her 17th Annual Birthday Jam, titled “D.C. Go-Go in the N.O.,” set to take place on Saturday, September 16, at 8 p.m. at Tipitina’s. DJ Soul Sister’s birthday party shows have become increasingly popular, with last year’s birthday party showcasing the legendary R&B Band Switch. In this edition, she celebrates the vibrant, funk-based music of Washington, D.C., known as go-go, a genre she’s cherished since the 1980s. The spotlight will be on the iconic E.U. (Experience Unlimited), the pioneering band in the D.C. go-go scene known for their distinctive call-and-response vocals and energetic percussion, including conga drums. E.U. gained nationwide recognition with their Grammy-nominated Billboard R&B chart hit “Da Butt” in 1988, featured in Spike Lee’s film School Daze. DJ Soul Sister will kick off the night with a dance-friendly set. Attendees can also enjoy complimentary birthday desserts while supplies last. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $25.

The monthly “Burning Hell Burlesque – Rock & Roll Burlesque Show” is happening on Saturday, September 16, at 10:30 p.m. at The Allways Lounge. This event, curated by the U.K.’s burlesque performer Pinky DeVille, is a night of rock ‘n’ roll cabaret featuring some of New Orleans’ most skilled burlesque talents alongside special guest acts. Pinky DeVille is a two-time Top 10 Finalist in the Miss Viva Las Vegas Burlesque Competition and has performed at burlesque shows across New Orleans and the U.K. General Admission tickets are available for $20, offering unreserved seating, while Lounge Seating, (reserved raised lounge seating at the back of the theatre), can be purchased for $25. Hank Williams Sr.‘s 100th Birthday Bash featuring Gal Holiday, Slow Motion Cowboys, and more will occur on Sunday, September 17, at 2 p.m. at BJ’s Lounge. Hiram “Hank” Williams, born on September 17, 1923, was a renowned American country singer-songwriter, acknowledged as one of the significant and influential figures in 20th-century American music. With 55 singles reaching the top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, his impact on the genre is undeniable. Williams, hailing from Alabama, honed his guitar skills under the guidance of blues musician Rufus Payne and Roy Acuff’s influence. His journey began in Montgomery in the late 1930s, performing on local radio stations and at various venues, including schoolhouses, movie theaters and bars. Gal Holiday from the country and western swing band Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue will be among the performers. Joe Krown

Joe Krown performs with Papa Mali, Casandra Faulconer and Wayne Maureau on Sunday, September 17, at 9 p.m. at the Maple Leaf Bar. Pianist and organist Joe Krown, featured in this month’s issue of OffBeat Magazine, has made his presence known in New Orleans for years. Originally from Westbury, Long Island, New York, Krown started playing the piano in his childhood. During his college years at the State University of New York at Buffalo, he discovered his passion for the Hammond B-3 organ, leading to a successful career as a sideman. In 1992, he moved to New Orleans to join Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown’s band, with whom he toured extensively in the United States and worldwide.
