The Broadside Theater will host a fundraising event featuring the movie Little Shop of Horrors on Thursday, October 12, with proceeds going to support Save Our Cemeteries, a non-profit organization in New Orleans dedicated to cemetery preservation, promotion, restoration, and education. The night will kick off with a performance by the surf rock band Shark Attack!! Following the music, you’ll have the chance to watch the iconic film Little Shop of Horrors, featuring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, on the big screen. There will be a costume contest, so those interested in attending are encouraged to dress in their best spooky attire. Refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase while watching the movie, including specialty drinks and food trucks. The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is set to perform the score for the 2017 psychological horror film Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele, known for his work on Key and Peele, Us and most recently, Nope. The orchestra will bring Michael Abel’s award-winning score to life alongside a screening of the thriller featuring Daniel Kaluuya from Sicario and Marvel’s Black Panther, as well as Allison Williams from HBO’s Girls. This R-rated film follows the story of a young Black man visiting his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend, exploring his growing unease about their reception of him. The performance is scheduled to take place from October 12 to 14 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2:30 p.m. matinee option for those interested in seeing the movie earlier in the day at the Orpheum Theatre. The Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival‘s 16th edition, organized by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, will take place from October 13 to 15 at Lafayette Square Park. This three-day event offers a diverse lineup of blues and jazz performances, an art market showcasing local talent and various BBQ vendors. Lafayette Square Park, between Poydras Street and St. Charles Avenue, serves as the festival’s outdoor venue across from the historic Gallier Hall. The festival will feature two stages with performances by many artists, including Samantha Fish, Little Freddie King, Tab Benoit and others. Piety Street Market will return this weekend on Sunday, October 15, from 12-5 p.m. Piety Market, which recently changed its location to the sanctuary space at Hotel Peter & Paul (2317 Burgundy St.) in the Marigny, offers a selection of locally crafted art, handmade goods, all-natural beauty products, vintage clothing, and flea market items. OffBeat contributor Cree McCree, who’s always had a passion for flea markets, is the mastermind behind Piety Market. McCree’s extensive experience and deep appreciation for artisanal craftsmanship have been pivotal in curating the market’s offerings. She has even authored a book titled Flea Market America, which delves into the world of flea markets and the unique treasures they offer. This weekend’s event is free to the public.
