On Thursday, January 11, Chickie Wah Wah presents Anaïs St. John in Simply the Best: The Tina Turner Story at 8 p.m. Dance the night away to 15 of Tina Turner’s greatest hits, including “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Simply the Best” and “Proud Mary.” St John will perform with a five-piece band that includes Kyle Cripps, Brian Quezerque, Doug Belote, Roderick Paulin and Danny Abel, along with her backup singers, Romy Kaye and Debbie Davis, who will unite for one night to tell the dramatic story of the queen of rock ‘n’ roll, Tina Turner. Immerse yourself in the enchanting ambiance of a multi-sensory Candlelight Concert on Friday January 12 at The Sazerac House. The Delachaise Ensemble, a dynamic string quartet, brings to life the best of feature film composer, Hans Zimmer. The ensemble was founded in 2020 by cellist Jake Fowler with violinists Moises Cunha and Elizabeth A. On Saturday, January 13, at 7:30 p.m. The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) presents a celebratory big-band performance Rhapsody in Blue at the Orpheum Theater. The event honors the extraordinary legacy of Edgar “Dooky” Chase and Leah Chase, who made profound contributions to the realms of art, food, and culture in New Orleans and beyond. The program, conducted by past LPO Principal Guest Conductor Thomas Wilkins, will feature a spirited lineup of works by American composer George Gershwin and jazz pioneer Duke Ellington. Get ready to dance the night away as RAM, the world’s premier Haitian dance band from Port-au-Prince, graces BJ’s Lounge in the Bywater on Saturday, January 13, at 9:00 p.m. Known for their infectious blend of folkloric polyrhythms, punk rock guitar riffs and Caribbean keyboard melodies, RAM has been a musical powerhouse for over 25 years. Led by the entrancing singer Lunise, the band has produced two albums in the last three years, captivating audiences internationally. Admission is $10, with doors opening at 9:00 p.m.
Also on Saturday, January 13, Snug Harbor presents the Annual Danny Barker Birthday Tribute featuring Detroit Brooks & Friends, honoring one of New Orleans’ most influential musicians. Detroit Brooks, a New Orleans guitar legend, leads a band of exceptional musicians mentored directly by Barker, creating an authentic and soulful tribute. The lineup includes Dr. Michael White on clarinet, Leroy Jones on trumpet, Frank Naundorf on trombone, Mari Watonabe on piano, Mitchell Player on bass, Herman LeBeaux on drums and the captivating vocals of Yolanda Robinson. On Sunday, January, 14, British alternative rock bands Charlatans UK and Ride will make a stop at The House Of Blues as part of their 2024 North American Tour. The Charlatans, known in the United States as The Charlatans UK, are known for their expansive sound, ambiguous lyrics of front man Tim Burgess and as key players in the alternative Britpop movement.
