Just as the 2011 Wednesday at the Square concerts wind down on the East Bank, the 2011 Wednesdays on the Point summer concert festival series begins on the West Bank. Every Wednesday through August 10, except July 6, the Algiers Economic Development Foundation will provide free concerts at the Algiers Ferry Dock from 6-9 p.m. The series kicks off Wednesday, June 22 with brass/funk/gospel singer and trombone player Glen David Andrews with jazz singer Sasha Masakowski opening.
Due to the Foundation’s special Fourth of July concert on the Monday of Independence Day, there won’t be a Wednesday show that week. Bonerama, Stooges Brass Band, and Lil Red & Big Bad Blues Band will perform for the special Fourth of July concert from 5-9 p.m.
The Wednesdays on the Point shows are just a ferry ride away for those East Bank concert go-ers. Ferries leave the Canal St. dock every quarter before and quarter after the hour, and drop you off right at the concert. Ferries leave from Algiers Point on the hour and half-hour.
