Intriguing collaborations are a common occurence during Jazz Fest season, but here’s one that most people probably didn’t see coming. Trombone Shorty, Orleans Avenue and some friends were hanging out at their studio the day before Jazz Fest kicked off when they decided to dip outside for a quick jam with… The Simpsons animator/frequent episode director David Silverman. In another interesting twist, the innovative animator and Burning Man enthusiast was manning his flaming tuba, a propane-assisted instrument he often plays at the desert festival.
As previously reported, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue once again closed out the Acura Stage on the final day of Jazz Fest. Shorty also released Parking Lot Symphony—his new album and Blue Note Records debut—on Friday, April 28. He’s also graced the cover of our 2017 Jazz Fest Bible.
