Sweet Crude have been dazzling crowd’s with their uplifting, bilingual brand of indie rock for a few years now, but they’ve only just put out their first full-length album. Dubbed Créatures, the 11-track release is a mostly-joyous romp that finds the six-piece blending pop hooks and harmonies with intensely-percussive layers and some frenetic synth work to create a sound that has few parallels on the Louisiana music scene (even if their mix of English and Cajun French lyrics does have a long history here). I say mostly-joyous because the album does have its somber moments, particularly on “Mon Esprit,” a slow burner that finds singer Alexis Marceaux at the height of her powers.
The solemn-yet-wondrous tone of “Mon Esprit” his brought to life in Sweet Crude’s newest music video, the band’s first for a track from Créatures. Directed by New Orleans; own Zac Manuel and filmed at Marigny Opera House, the beautifully shot black-and-white production alternates its focus between a lone dancer and a group of pallbearers as the track builds toward its climax. Rising star Tarriona “Tank” Ball even plays a role in the video, which you can watch below.
