One New Orleans street musician found himself playing with a living legend when Questlove jammed with him after yesterday’s downpour. The young drummer, whose name is Darius, was performing on the corner of Frenchmen and Chartres Street when Questlove showed up with his The Roots bandmate Black Thought and rapper/actor Common. The Roots drummer, impressed by the young man’s chops, grabbed a bucket of his own and joined him in front of a captive audience.
Part of the surprise collaboration was captured in a video that was posted on Common’s Facebook page earlier today. According to the rapper, Questlove also gifted Darius a drum set after the performance, so hopefully we’ll get to hear what he sounds like behind a more sophisticated kit down the road.
As previously reported, The Roots backed Usher for a headlining set on Jazz Fest’s Congo Square Stage this past Saturday.
