The Late Show with Stephen Colbert always has a little bit of New Orleans flavor thanks to bandleader Jon Batiste, but the program has turned it up a notch this week. Tuesday saw a sit-in from Dr. John, while yesterday brought an exciting appearance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
What made this appearance so exciting, you ask? In addition to the top-notch musicianship we’ve come to expect from PHJB, there was a surprise collaboration with Foo Fighters frontman (and part-time music historian) Dave Grohl. Watch below as Grohl literally jumps into the fray to join PHJB and the Batiste-led house band for a rendition of the brand new Preservation Hall original “Santiago,” which appears on the group’s new album So It Is.
