What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving eve Louisiana-style than with a Sweet Crude show at One Eyed Jacks?
The bilingual seven piece band is known for setting Cajun French lyrics to their clamorous indie pop tunes.
It may seem strange to combine the traditional tongue of Louisiana’s countryside with pop hooks, tribal rhythms, and four-part harmonies, but it works.
Moreover, the band members are intent on reconnecting with their own French ancestry and hope that what they are doing musically makes a small contribution to preserving the traditional culture.
“We want to show that the language is still alive and kicking, and that it sounds great in any genre,” primary lyricist Sam Craft, who taught himself to speak Cajun French fluently, said in a press release.
The band got their start in 2013 and have already been making a name for themselves. Their music has been featured on FX’s American Horror Story, and they’ve performed at several big-name festivals like Louisiana’s Festival International and the World Acadian Congress in New Brunswick.
They are currently touring in support of their debut EP Super Vilaine, and this will be their only local club date of the season. Don’t miss out!
The show is this Wednesday, November 26.
Doors will open at 9 p.m. for two killer opening acts: Saint Bell and Fancy Pants. Tickets are $10.
