On Thursday, October 18 and Monday, October 22, a brass band from São Paulo, Brazil, will bring an infectious mix of traditional jazz with the sounds of their hometown to New Orleans.
Unidos Do Swing is, like a New Orleans brass band, a parading group of musicians featuring brass, wind, percussion and string instruments. Adopting the trad jazz sound and incorporating it into their native country, the band is known to perform second-line music, swing, blues, maracatu, baião and samba. There’s even a dash of ska and plenty of original tunes and arrangements. Their live performances blend music, dance and circus techniques.
Currently in the midst of their debut international tour, Unidos Do Swing will arrive in New Orleans at Cafe Istanbul (2372 St Claude Ave.) for two shows, one at 6:30 p.m. on October 18 and one at 7:30 p.m. on October 22. For more information, visit the band on Facebook.
