Legendary New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$ announced their annual 2023 national tour, “Grey Day.” The tour will visit 40 cities across the United States, starting on August 25 in Birmingham, AL, and concluding in their hometown of New Orleans on September 1 at the Smoothie King Center. The tour will feature supporting acts Ghostemane, City Morgue, Freddie Dredd, Sematary, and Ramirez.
$uicideboy$, for those unaware, are pioneers of the underground hip hop scene in New Orleans. Originally from the West Bank, cousins Ruby da Cherry and $crim began revolutionizing
alternative hip hop in the city in 2014, creating a new brand of hip hop infused with darker, more emo themes and soundscapes, tapping into the crowd of angsty and restless youth throughout
New Orleans by tackling themes such as drug addiction and hopelessness.
Their albums My Liver Will Handle What My Heart Can’t (2015) and I Want to Die in New Orleans (2018) have amassed over 1.2 billion streams since they were released. They are recognized internationally as pioneers of the punk rap subgenre and rank among the top 100 highest streaming artists of all time. Now, nearly 10 years later, the group has become internationally-recognized as one of the earliest founders of the punk rap subgenre alongside legends like Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, and Yung Lean.
In addition to the tour announcement, $uicideboy$ have unveiled “The Yin Yang Tapes,” a four-part conceptual EP series. Throughout May, they will release a new EP each Friday, each named after one of the four seasons. The releases will accompany an animated series created by Tristan Zammit, known for his work with artists such as Metallica, Lil Uzi Vert, and JuiceWRLD.
Ticket sales for Grey Day began on May 19, with prices for the Smoothie King Center show ranging from $50 to $280.
