U2 to celebrate ‘The Joshua Tree’ in New Orleans

U2 will headline a concert at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Thursday, September 14. The popular Irish rock band just added the New Orleans date to their latest tour, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of their seminal 1987 album The Joshua Tree. U2 intends to perform the album in full—in addition to other hits from their vast catalog—at each stop.

Alternative rock icon Beck will also be on hand to open the New Orleans show with a set of his own.

U2 last played a full gig in the Crescent City when their PopMart Tour brought them to the Superdome in 1997, though the group also played a few songs with Green Day and Trombone Shorty when the Saints made their triumphant post-Katrina return to the same venue on September 25, 2006. That 1997 show was almost 20 years ago, however, and U2 has released another four albums (including 2000’s critically-acclaimed All That You Can’t Leave Behind) since then.

Tickets for U2’s New Orleans concert will go on sale to general public at 10am on Friday, June 16. Prices start at $35, with general admission floor tickets going for $70. U2.com subscribers will be able to purchase purchase pre-sale from 10am on Tuesday, June 13 to 5pm on Thursday, June 15.
