The Trombone Shorty Foundation will be hosting the second Tunes for Toys concert at Tulane’s McAlister Auditorium on Tuesday, December 1st, 2015.
The concert will feature performances from Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, the New Breed Brass Band, MainLine and the Students of the Trombone Shorty Academy. The event is free of charge, guests are only asked to bring a new toy.
“What’s cool about it for us is that it gives the students that are in our Trombone Shorty Academy the opportunity to perform live in front of a large audience, and also to share the stage with Troy,” said the foundation’s executive director Bill Taylor.
The students had a chance to play in WWOZ’s Cuttin’ Class series earlier this month.
Andrews has been giving away toys in the community during the holidays for five years. But Taylor says that the creation of the Trombone Shorty Foundation and the partnership with Tulane’s School of Liberal Arts allowed them to take this philanthropic action to a larger scale. Last year’s Tunes for Toys attracted more than a thousand people, and resulted in more than 500 toys collected for the community.
Tulane hosts the foundation’s music classes as well as its Fredman Music Business Institute.
The auditorium is located at 43, McAlister Drive, on the Tulane campus Uptown. The event starts at 8 p.m.
