Masters of the horn Leroy Jones, Wendell Burnious and Jamil Sharif will perform together at Loyola University at an event fittingly titled Trumpet Royalty. With music ranging from traditional to modern jazz, the October 19 event is part of the Jazz Underground Series organized by Loyola professor of jazz studies Tony Dagradi. The acclaimed series is part of Loyola Presents, formerly known as the Montage Fine and Performing Arts Series, showcasing some of the top arts events in the region, ranging from concerts to theater and ballet performances.
“The concert’s title, ‘Trumpet Royalty,’ says it all,” said Dagradi. “It’s an honor and a privilege to have these three local trumpeters playing together at Loyola. These men have been playing and studying their craft since they were kids. They’ve studied and played with legends, and they’re some of the best New Orleans has to offer.”
Loyola Presents the Jazz Underground Series: Trumpet Royalty will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19 in Nunemaker Auditorium, Third Floor, Monroe Hall, Loyola University New Orleans, 6363 St. Charles Ave. Tickets range from $15 to $20.
