On Thursday, May 25, the Trumpet Mafia will perform with vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa at Chickie Wah Wah, the music bar located on Canal Street in Mid-City New Orleans.
The Trumpet Mafia, headed by New Orleans-based jazz trumpeter Ashlin Parker, collaborated with Cavassa at the 2023 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on May 5, performing her arrangement of “Jasmine” by New Orleans drummer James Black.
The Trumpet Mafia were recognized with Offbeat Magazine’s Best of the Beat Award for Best Emerging Artist in 2017, and have performed at every Jazz Fest since 2015 when they “took over” the festival.
The Trumpet Mafia is not limited to a specific musical genre or style. Its members come from diverse musical backgrounds, including jazz, classical, funk, and beyond. This inclusive approach reflects the belief that the trumpet is a versatile instrument that can be embraced in various musical contexts.
Cavassa, born in California but now based in New Orleans, featured Parker in 2020 in her critically-acclaimed recording debut, with a second studio album set to release in 2023.
Tickets for their performance at Chickie Wah Wah, which will be limited to an 18 and over audience, can be purchased in advance for $25, or on the day of the show for $32 on the Chickie Wah Wah website.
Doors open for the show at 7 p.m., and the performance will begin at 8 p.m. For more information on The Trumpet Mafia, visit their website.
