New Orleans-based musician and music educator Troy Sawyer and his band, the Elementz, have released their first music video. The video is for the band’s single “Rock Your Soul,” which was released during Mardi Gras in 2019.
The video for “Rock Your Soul” was shot in Algiers Point, New Orleans, before a mural by visual artist Lionel Milton. The song’s energy is infectious and will make viewers want to dance.
Troy Sawyer is an accomplished trumpet player from a line of great musicians, including his cousin Leon Bridges and his great-grandfather Louis D. James, who played with the legendary Buddy Bolden. Sawyer’s band, the Elementz, is known for its unique sound, which blends funk, rock, soul, jazz, and Latin influences.
In addition to his music career, Sawyer founded Girls Play Trumpets Too, a nonprofit organization that empowers girls aged 8-19 to play the trumpet on a novice and advanced level. The organization aims to enhance equal representation in a male-dominated music industry.
The “Rock Your Soul” video features Sawyer on trumpet and vocals, Edward Johnson on drums, Billy Frank on guitar, and Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. on washboard and vocals. The videographers were Petey Paul of What it Do Network and Mike Lutrell. Sawyer himself edited the video, while visual artist Lionel Milton created the mural in the background. The video also features dancer Rian Allen.
Fans of Troy Sawyer and the Elementz can look forward to the release of their debut album, also called Rock Your Soul, later this year.
