Evidently, Troy “Trombone Shorty Andrews is more than just a bandleader, songwriter and virtuosuo horn player. He’s a pretty solid drummer too.

The New Orleans icon made a surprise appearance at the Candlelight Lounge last night, where he sat in with another group of New Orleans icons–the Treme Brass Band. Andrews put down his signature trombone and took up the snare drum during his time with the band, one again proving that his skill is far from limited.

Last night’s show was a part of the Treme Brass Band’s Wednesday night residency at the newly renovated Candlelight Lounge. The band relaunched to the regular Wednesday gig last month after the venue reopened following months of renovations.
