Trombone Shorty Gives Back to His High School

Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews gave a little something back to his alma mater yesterday when he returned to Warren Easton High School with a donation for the school’s music program .

NOLA.com reports that the popular musician teamed up with Life is Good Co. to provide the school with a set of new horns. As a little bit of lagniappe, Andrews also invited the New Breed Brass Band to help him teach a horn lesson in the school’s auditorium, where a number of music students joined them on stage for a performance in front of 200 classmates and faculty.

The donation was courtesy of of Andrews’ Trombone Shorty Foundation, a nonprofit that works to “perpetuate the musical heritage of New Orleans through music education, instruction, mentorship and performance to prepare young, underserved musicians for success in music and life.” In addition to providing donations to schools like Warren Easton, the organization partners with Tulane University to run the Trombone Shorty Music Academy and the Fredman Music Business Institute. Both programs offer music performance and music business education to high school students in the New Orleans area.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will head to Dallas this Friday for a set at The Reunion, a one day festival featuring Weezer and Fitz & The Tantrums. The band will then head to Europe next month for a tour in support of alternative rock superstars the Foo Fighters.
