The fifth annual Shorty Fest will return to the the House of Blues New Orleans during Jazz Fest season to raise money for the Trombone Shorty Foundation.
Slated for Thursday, May 4, the show will once again be headlined by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Joining them on the bill will be rising Shreveport-based rockers Seratones, local young guns the New Breed Brass Band, Indiana funk/soul outfit The Main Squeeze, psych-funk ensemble Sexual Thunder and many more.
Performances will take place across two stages at the House of Blues, with doors opening at 8pm and music kicking off at 9pm.
“The fifth annual Shorty Fest is the place to be to see the future of our music during Jazz Fest, including the next generation of New Orleans superstars, the Trombone Shorty Academy students,” said Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. “With the support of our incredible sponsors, we are developing our city’s best and brightest young musicians, who would not otherwise be able to pursue this path. Shorty Fest is the culmination of years of hard work, passion and commitment.”
Founded in 2013, the Trombone Shorty Foundation is the realization of Andrews’ dream of sharing his passion for music with the next generation. The Academy combines education in the region’s rich musical history with immersion in a performance ensemble under the guidance of musicians Erion Williams, Edward Lee, and and Julian Gosin of New Orleans’ own The Soul Rebels, and Jenard Andrews of New Breed Brass Band. As usual, this year’s Shorty Fest will include performances by students from the Trombone Shorty Academy.
Tickets for Shorty Fest are now on sale, but don’t hesitate if you’re interested in going. The event always sells out.
