The third annual Treme Creole Gumbo Festival will be heating up North Rampart Street this weekend at the Jazz and Heritage Center at 1225 North Rampart. Vendors will be providing full bowls and tasting portions of various shades of gumbo, including a seafood from Miss Linda’s Creole Catering, creole filé from Li’l Dizzy’s Cafe, andouille sausage from Dunbar’s Creole Cooking, and a dark chicken and sausage gumbo from Brocato’s Eat Dat. Each vendor will have other food available as well.
Kermit Ruffins and Big Sam’s Funky Nation highlight the music lineup, and for those seeking local gifts for the holidays, there will be a craft bazaar as well with offerings from over 30 local arts and crafts vendors. Gumbo is the true star of the show though, and so on Sunday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. the crowd will receive samples from each gumbo booth so that the audience can vote on a winner for Best Gumbo of 2010.
