The Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival returns to Louis Armstrong Park on November 9-10, 2024, for a weekend of live music and more. This free annual event, highlights the unique heritage of the historic Tremé neighborhood, offering a taste of the city’s renowned gumbo alongside live performances from local artists.
The weekend celebration begins Friday night with a special kickoff concert featuring Deacon John & The Ivories at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, just down the street from Louis Armstrong Park. Tickets for this exclusive event are on sale now.
The Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival features an impressive lineup of live performances, including R&B, funk,and iconic brass bands, with music playing from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days. The festival kicks off Saturday, November 9, with the infectious sounds of Da Truth Brass Band, followed by sets from Kelly Love Jones, the Tremé Brass Band and Tonya Boyd-Cannon. Saturday night concludes with the Brass-A-Holics, a local favorite blending funk and brass.
Sunday, November 10, starts with the Knockaz Brass Band, followed by Naydja CoJoe & the Lagniappe Section and DJ Raj Smoove & Friends. Closing out the festival are two legendary acts: the Charmaine Neville Band and The Soul Rebels, known for their high-energy, New Orleans-infused performances.
Food lovers can indulge in a range of authentic gumbo, with local chefs serving everything from dark roux chicken and sausage gumbo to seafood and Creole filé gumbo. Beyond gumbo, vendors will offer classic New Orleans eats like po’boys and shrimp and grits, so festival-goers should come hungry.
The festival’s arts market is set to feature handcrafted art, jewelry and home goods by regional artisans, offering a chance to take home a piece of local culture. There will also be activities for children, making this a family-friendly event where all ages can experience the vibrant spirit of Tremé.
Admission to the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival is free, with donation boxes available throughout the park to support the festival’s mission of keeping events accessible to all.
