The acclaimed New Orleans bassist, guitarist and vocalist Tony Hall is set to take the stage at Tipitina’s as part of the venue’s summer Free Fridays concert series. The concert will be on Friday, July 7, at 8 p.m. at Tipitina’s, located at the corner of Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans.
Tipitina’s, the historic music venue owned by Galactic, holds a special place in the heart of New Orleans. Originally opened on January 14, 1977, the venue derived its name from the iconic song “Tipitina” by Professor Longhair, who graced its stage until his passing in 1980. What was once known as “The 501 Club,” based on its street address (501 Napoleon Avenue), became the renowned Tipitina’s.
Tipitina’s is also known for establishing the Tip-It Foundation (F.K.A Tipitina’s Foundation,) a non-profit organization supporting local music and musicians. The foundation was vital in providing musical instruments and uniforms to New Orleans public high school marching bands and assisting musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina, and has been involved in educating hundreds of young musicians.
Tony Hall, a highly-respected figure in the New Orleans music scene, has been a founding member of Dumpstaphunk, and has lent his talent to various artists throughout his career. From working with local icons like Harry Connick Jr., Dr. John, and the Neville Brothers to sharing the stage with renowned names such as Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, and more, Hall has made an indelible mark on the music industry. His contributions to albums and live performances have encompassed various genres, showcasing his versatility and skill.
Tipitina’s Free Fridays is a tradition that allows the community to experience live music without any admission fees. The event is open to the public, with a first-come, first-serve policy for attendees aged 21 and over. For more information on the event, click here!
