Tipitina’s has revealed the lineup for the Tipitina’s Foundation’s annual Instruments A Comin’ Benefit, which will once again raise money for school band programs in the New Orleans area. In keeping with tradition, the event will take place on the Monday between the first and second weekends of Jazz Fest (May 1).
Galactic, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Cha Wa, Rory Danger & the Danger Dangers, New Orleans Suspects (with Fred Tackett of Little Feat), Johnny Sketch and The Dirty Notes, The Nth Power and Honey Island Swamp will all take the stage as part of the party indoor festivities.
A free outdoor gathering will begin at 6pm, and will feature performances by Donald Harrison Jr. & The Tips Interns, St Augustine High School and Edna Karr High School as well as a battle of the bands with Lake Area High School taking on Sci Academy. There will also be a silent auction, a Walk of Fame induction ceremony and a Wall of Fame induction ceremony.
The outdoor gathering will begin at 6pm, with the indoor party kicking off at 8pm.
The proceeds from this year’s event will be used to purchase musical instruments for band programs. Over the past 16 years, Instruments A Comin’ has provided more than $3.2 million worth of musical instruments to 101 Louisiana schools and after-school music programs.
